Today, I am going to compare Singapore Post with Mcdonald's SG50 Hello Kitty Set. This year is Singapore 50th birthday. To mark this Jubilee year, you will see all kinds of marketing campaigns that revolve around SG50. SG50 cup, SG50 toilet bowl, SG50 towkaynew, SG50 shades of grey! Last but not least, there is Hello Kitty. And it is not just 1 but 2 set of SG50 Hello Kitty. So now, it is time for Singpost vs Mcdonald's based on my humble opinion. First is the design, I dare say that the Singpost design is abit cliche, yeah 4 ethnic groups, Singapore is a racial harmony country. So i can say the design idea is abit old fashion. Just like during my primary school days, where i always draw 4 ethnics group and singapore flag for national day theme. For the Mcdonald's, my first reaction is 'alamak this is so cute'. I dare say Mcdonald's has successfully infuse some of memorable Singapore icons into Hello Kitty without compromising the cuteness of Hello Kitty! Truly genius. Plus each one of them have a story to tell Like the samsui woman, who contribute in building our nation. Our national flower, our fave fruit. Trishaw Uncle looks like hokkien mee uncle If you put both together, u see that each of the Mcdonald's Hello Kitty has different expression. Whereas for Singpost, it is just like 1 hello kitty lup with different san kor. Second is the texture & workmanship, In terms of the texture & workmanship, i dare say that Singpost is much better. The fur of Singpost Hello Kitty is much smoother and softer. By looking at the nose, you can see the worksmanship of Mcdonald's Hello Kitty is much more rougher Third is the overall presentation Singpost overall presentation is plain and dull. Okay loh, 4 ethnics group, hokay noted. With Mcdonald's many years of experience working on Hello Kitty campaign, it is no surprise that they know what the consumer wants. With the landscape booklet and standees, u can showcase ur SG50 Hello Kitty without any extra decoration effort! Forth is the price This Singpost set cost me $88 for 5 hello kitties and 1 useless look book. Mcdonald's set cost only $80 for 6 hello kitties, landscape booket, standees and 6 extra value meal vouchers worth $5 each. So in end, u r paying $50 for the 6 cute hello kitties. In conclusion, I still like Mcdonald's SG50 Hello Kitty the best. In terms of price and overall presentation, the set has already won Singpost. Plus the theme really brings out the SG50 spirit where by we celebrate the uniqueness and memories of Singapore. You can see Mcdonald's really put in more thoughts in designing this series of Hello Kitty. Not surprising coz of their many years of experience working on this franchise!
