In Loving Memory of Sherril Moring Little more than two months ago, my mom -- unquestionably the most influential person in my life -- was diagnosed with cancer. One of the first things she did, as she began to prepare herself as best as she could for the inevitable, was to ask my Uncle Wayne - her older brother - if he would sing at her funeral. One of my mom's greatest pleasures in life was to hear her brother sing. In fact, in her final weeks, during a time when she was barely strong enough to stand, she still managed to stage a temporary jailbreak from the hospital, traveling across town just to hear him sing a couple songs in concert. I sat beside her during this concert, and for those few short moments, it was like the sickness was gone and everything was all right. I can still feel her squeezing my leg and tapping my shoulder, pointing up at him with childlike excitement, making sure I didn't miss a moment -- as if it could be possible to avert one's eyes (or ears, as the case may be) when Uncle Wayne is on stage. I'm certain that some puzzled exchanges took place when a small camera crew seemed to appear at her funeral service, but I figured this was an opportunity to give her one more parting gift. She would have been blown away by this performance and so deeply moved that it was in tribute to her. And she would've been so pleased that this record exists so that her brother's touching performance could be heard again and again; If she were here, she would be watching over and over, and she would make all of her friends and family watch it over and over as well. And she would be squeezing their legs and tapping their shoulders to make sure they didn't miss a single, beautiful moment. Friends and family: Please enjoy and share this video, and remember the many ways my mom - the beautiful person she was - touched your lives. I would like to give a special thank you to Aaron Peacock and Aidan Kennedy who took on the task of capturing this moment, and captured it beautifully. And to Adam Martignetti, without whom it would not have been possible. Thank you also to my friend and colleague, Steven Labadie who traveled from Pickering, volunteering his time and resources to handle the audio recording and mixing. And of course, to "Uncle Wayne" Robinson, whose inspiring strength, talent and love continues to make all sickness disappear and all things seem right, four minutes at a time.
