J.J. Fad (acronym for (Just Jammin' Fresh and Def) was a female hip-hop trio from Los Angeles, consisting of MC JB, Baby-D, and Sassy C. The group was signed to Ruthless Records, and produced by NWA's Dr. Dre and Yella. Their first album, Supersonic, released in 1988, spawned the self-titled hit, 'Supersonic', was the first Grammy nominated single by a female hip-hop group. It remained high on the Pop and Hip-Hop charts in 1988. The group's follow up singles were 'Way Out' and 'Is It Love', as well as the single 'Comin Correct' that was on the Coming To America Soundtrack in 1988. JJ Fad was featured in the West Coast All Stars anti-violence track, 'We're All In The Same Gang' in 1990. This track featured the likes of West Coast Hip-Hop acts such as Young MC, NWA, Oaktown 357, King Tee, Digital Underground and MC Hammer. Even though the group had a sexy and innocent image that appealed to a Pop flavored commercial Hip-Hop audience, their popularity faded as Hip-Hop became more Hard edged and Gangsta in the 1990s. Their second album, Not Just A Fad, released in 1991 was produced by Arabian Prince and DJ Yella, didn't do well at all. The only single off that album that was worthy was 'We In The House'. The group broke up the following year, but the group will be known to be in a niche of good humored pop hip-hop among the likes of MC Hammer and Kid N Play.
