In this video I'll show you 5 main features of the Transatlantic/Mid-Atlantic Accent, plus a bonus feature. It's a combination of the standard American accent and the British RP accent. Just like that strange and funny accent they used to speak in old films. It seems I can't really do an American accent so if you are American and watching this - please use your standard American with my British tips. If you are British then vice versa. Easy! Plus, it seems that in old films especially, it was mostly Americans trying to adopt a British accent, rather than the other way round. So what is it? Actually it's a made-up accent that was adopted by the old-timey film stars like Katharine Hepburn and Vincent Price, who were well-known speakers of the accent. Unfortunately, it's now long forgotten and the only place you really hear it now is in old films. However, if you want to sound like one of your idols from the Golden Age of Hollywood then look no further and follow me on the journey into the Transatlantic accent. I have outlined 5 main features, plus a bonus feature (if you make it to the end!). One thing to bear in mind is that it has a slightly British biased (as I am a British accents coach) so the video mostly features features that Americans would have adopted speaking in a more British way. Although there is a section in the video where I compare the American and British accents.
