Ultrasound Guided Sciatic Nerve Block in a Dog: Part 1 of 3

Procedural video demonstrates an ultrasound guided sciatic nerve block in a dog. These blocks provide regional anesthesia and post-operative analgesia for procedures typically distal to the stifle in a dog. Developed in a 3 part series, the first video will review the prep and anatomical landmarks for the procedure. Part 2 will review the anatomical landmarks and nerve on ultrasound. Part 3 will demonstrate the ultrasound guided procedure with and without electrical stimulation. Matt Read, DVM, MVSc, DACVAA, who will perform the procedure on this video graduated with a DVM of distinction from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Canada in 1998. Following graduation, he completed a residency in veterinary anesthesiology and a Master’s of Veterinary Science. He became board-certified with the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA) in 2002 and served as a member of the ACVAA’s Board of Directors from 2010-2014. Matt taught at the University of Georgia from 2001-2003 and developed anesthesia services in two specialty practices from 2003-2010.
