Federal investigators have uncovered what they describe as one of the largest welfare fraud schemes in U.S. history. Dozens of individuals, many from Minnesota’s Somali community, have been charged with defrauding the state’s welfare program, allegedly siphoning more than $1 billion in taxpayer funds. The investigation, which has spanned several years, intensified under the Biden administration as the FBI raided multiple organizations and exposed a network of government-fraud operations. Retired FBI Special Agent in Charge and former Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis spoke with The National News Desk to discuss the case—and the separate investigation into an Afghan National Guard shooting suspect.
