Nitish Kumar’s government has long focused on women voters, and this year, the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana promises ₹10,000 support to women across the state. Many have received the amount, a small sum that still carries weight in homes where every rupee counts. We also got the latest update on SIR, how many names were removed and how many added, an important detail as Bihar heads closer to elections. In Begusarai, known as Bihar’s industrial hub, locals raised questions over corporate social responsibility funds meant to tackle pollution. Residents shared how, despite the presence of large factories, including beverage plants, pollution levels remain high and basic accountability is missing. The region has also seen a worrying rise in cancer cases, which locals believe is linked to unchecked industrial waste. Many said that PILs filed over the years have brought no changes. We also met locals, and veteran journalists who spoke about how journalism in Bihar has changed over time. Through these conversations, we understood how ground stories, corporate influence, and media priorities often collide. Our journey ended at Kawar Lake, Begusarai’s vast wetland, where we spoke to local boatmen about their livelihoods and what they seek in a leader. These conversations remind us that development is not only about large projects or caste equations.
