Dun da Lamh Hill Fort is located a few miles southwest of the village of Laggan in the Spey Valley. It is believed to be one of the oldest hill forts in this part of Scotland but no major archaeological excavations have taken place to allow accurate dating of the structure although it can safely be assumed to date from the time of the Picts. From the A86 at the Falls of Pattack, it takes about 90 minutes to hike up through attractive woodlands to the remains of the fort which stands on a steep-sided hill that is bordered to the north by the River Spey and on the south by the River Mashie. It would have been an excellent defensive position.
