Epic this week, as we try to locate a Roman bridge abutment, excavated in 1990 and seemingly forgotten since. This was filmed on the dankest and wettest day of the winter so far - or so it seemed - and as a result, the beck was raging. We're in Chester-le-Street, which as the name implies, has a Roman road: Cade's Road. It also had a fort: Concangis. And was home to Raymond Selkirk. "The Godfather" according to Andy. Selkirk was a commercial pilot who very much got into archaeology and was probably best known back in the day for a controversial theory about the Roman bridge remains at Piercebridge: The Piercebridge Formula. Another of his theories was the Five Churches Line, and that's key to this investigation. Join us to find out what we discovered. See our earlier video for more on Piercebridge: • Stranded Roman Bridge Pedants' Corner: A question relates.
