Bethesda originally planned to drop ES6 on 2/22/22—until Red Dead Redemption 2 came out. They saw it as a direct competitor, especially since it was way too close to what they were trying to do with ES6 at the time. After that, everything changed. They’ve since shifted direction completely. Internally, they’re calling it a more “Minecraft” style approach now. With open-ended, systems-based, more sandbox kind of game rather than a traditional RPG. And it’s been rough. It’s people were getting paid to sit there for 10 hours a day and make no progress. Since 2023, there’s even been talk about handing the game off to another studio to help finish it. And here’s the part I think people really need to hear: Bethesda is quietly aiming to get this game out before the trailer turns 10 years old in June 2028. That’s their unofficial deadline. They know if it hits a full decade with no release, the game’s reputation might never recover. I’m betting this video ages like fine wine.
