2026 ECC Black History Month Celebration

Edgecombe Community College’s Student Government Association, in partnership with Providing African American Males the Edge to Succeed (PAAMES), presented a dynamic Black History Month Program in February. “The Dream Continues: Living Legacies” was held on ECC’s Tarboro campus. Dr. Stephon Ferguson served as keynote speaker. Widely recognized for his authentic renditions of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s speeches and sermons, Ferguson captivates and educates about Dr. King’s life, philosophy and enduring impact. Cultural appreciation and artistic expression was highlighted with performances from the Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) Choir. Attendees also heard from Olivia Wheeler, winner of Rocky Mount’s annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratorical Competition. Following the program, vendors showcased a variety of products and services.
