The snowflakes begin to fly over Maine Sunday afternoon and the snowfall rates will be heavy into the overnight up to 3 inches per hour. This will be an all-snow event with no mixing of sleet or rain. The storm track keeps the warm nose of air from reaching Maine. Snowfall amounts will reach more than 1 foot for a good chunk of the Pine Tree State with up to 2 feet in the heaviest snow bands. Before the nor'easter arrives it will be extremely cold this weekend with sub zero numbers down to the coastline and wind chills in the 35 or more below zero range far inland. Pets need to come inside all weekend long. There will also be snow squalls today with the arctic front. These act like mini-blizzards that reduce visibility while you are driving, but won't add up a lot of snow today.
