Download this video as well as Part 2 at: https://gum.co/animation-basics UPDATE 11/18: the list of unavailable features ( at :49) are now available in the most recent version of CSP! If you've always wanted to give 2D animation a try, or if you're a seasoned animator but can't afford the high price tag of commercial cel animation software, then you absolutely must try Clip Studio Paint's animation toolset. Clip Studio Paint is more than just an illustration tool! It's newly updated timeline functionality opens the door for beautifully created 2D animation workflows using familiar drawing and painting methods. In this tutorial, I go over the basics of the CSP animation workflow, setting up production-proven shortcuts and navigating you toward getting up and running quickly and efficiently. If you want to dive further, head over to my Gumroad training (link above) for Part 02, where I expand on the basics for those serious about understanding the best way to cel shade, approach your line work, use the light table feature, and more fully understand the powerful export options. Traditional 2D animation is a lot work, but it's incredibly gratifying. Clip Studio has managed to harness the core of old fashioned frame-to-frame animation in a way that makes it accessible and affordable to anyone with a passion to learn and a drive to create. If you've been dying to animate, you won't regret giving Clip Studio Paint a try! Check out the finished project that I use in this tutorial at: https://vimeo.com/226170143 0:00 - 0:30 Introduction 0:30- 1:42 CPS animation features (UPDATE: as of Nov 2018, these features are now available!) 1:42 - 2:46 EX vs. PRO (this is why you may have 24 frame limits), what is blank space, and general settings 2:46 - 5:11 Timeline setup, layer and folder functionality 5:11 - 7:25 Assigning/Specifying cels (frames) on the timeline, onion skin 7:25 - 9:08 Un-specifying cels, alternate drawing example 9:08 - 10:14 Layer order and name organization 10:14 - 10:29 Cleaning up layer names 10:29 - 11:24 In-betweens 11:24 - 13:26 Individual cel folders, BG color, shadows example 13:26 - 14:31 Making new cels from drawings in folders vs. individual layers. (If you make a new animation cel while on a cel that has folders within it, the new animation cel will retain that folder structure. Conversely, if you make a new cel from a single cel it will duplicate a new single cel. Good for later stages of animation development.) 14:31 - 20:33 Six keyboard shortcuts 20:33 - 23:42 Finishing original sequence, example timelapse, conclusion Thanks to @Kabliahk for helping me get the index done!
