There’s something different about riding in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. It feels bigger. Wilder. Untouched. The Upper Peninsula hits different in the winter. We took a 2003 Polaris 600 Edge XP and a 2019 Ski-Doo 850 Backcountry E-TEC deep into the U.P., carving through forest trails until they opened up to the raw shoreline of Lake Superior near Gay, Michigan. One sled is classic two-stroke punch. The other is modern backcountry torque. Different eras. Same purpose — chase freedom. There’s nothing like riding through endless trees and suddenly seeing open water and frozen shoreline stretching forever. It reminds you how small you are — in the best way possible.
