Niel Gow along with William Marshall are considered to be Scotlands most gifted and lasting composers for the violin prior to J. Scott Skinner. His Lament for the death of his second wife is probably the most famous of his compositions. The recorder lends a different feel to the song from the violin but still captures the emotion contained within the piece.
