SITE AREA : 70 Acres SITE LOCATION : Minicoy island, Lakshadweep YEAR: 5th Year CATEGORY: Architecture Model Lakshadweep is a union territory of India which is located in south western part of Arabian sea known for its undiscovered beauty on corals, lagoons, coconut land and so on. Lakshadweep consist of 36 islands of its only 10 are inhabited and left 26 are uninhabited, they are treated as an islands for tourism development. Central government have put forward proposals on resorts in each islands including tourism like Maldives to develop tourism of Lakshadweep by considering limitations on availability of bed capacity for tourists. But all these proposals are not feasible by the way they approached. These proposals will affect the marine life by disturbing their breeding locations and their habitats. Also, the construction approach will disturb the frame structure of islands. Already the corals of Lakshadweep are dying due to global warming. So the corals are not able to perform their function as natural wave barrier. All this leads to erosion of soft beds of lagoons. As a result the islands which have only maximum 2 m height will slowly disappear or sink due to coastal erosion. Also, these proposals affect the coconut cultivation, present fresh water availability and land. So I choose a FLOATATION APPROACH to develop tourism infrastructure without disturbing the islands. Already islands have limitations such as electricity, water availability, transportation, etc. Most of the limitations can be solved through floatation technology. By Floatation method we can transfer a structure from one place to another on our demands. So the Floatation method is environmentally feasible comparing the existing government proposals. I had included CORAL RESTORATION technology by which we can restore the dead corals. Through this we can prevent the island from coastal erosion to a limit. By floatation approach the availability of land, marine life, income source of island people etc. are protected. Concept -RIPPLES. The idea of Ripple is taken as an Radial Concept .The water movement is originated from a focal point.
