Child killer Barrie Watts, who brutally raped and murdered a 12-year-old school on the Sunshine Coast almost 35 years ago, is making a bid for freedom. Watts and his then wife Valmae Beck were convicted and given life sentences over the horrific killing of #SianKingi, who was minutes from her Noosa home when they snatched her. The 12-year-old had been riding her bike on her way from school at Noosa Heads and was last seen around 4.30pm that Friday. The couple lured Sian off her bike by asking her to help look for a supposed lost dog. The schoolgirl was bound and gagged and driven some 12km to Tinbeerwah forest where she was raped and stabbed multiple times, it was reported. Beck, who was 44 and a mother of six at the time she committed the crime, died in a north Queensland hospital in May 2008, aged 64. She had changed her name to Fay Cramb. Watts, who was 34 when he killed Sian and is now approaching his 70s, has made a bid for freedom, the Parole Board of Queensland has confirmed. “The Parole Board Queensland confirms a parole application has been received for prisoner Barrie Watts,” Queensland Corrective Services said in a statement. “The board is aware the parole application by prisoner Barrie Watts is of considerable public interest. “As prisoner Barrie Watts’s parole matter is current, it would be inappropriate for the board to make comments in relation to the particulars of the application before it, with the exception that the board is yet to consider his application for a parole order. “The board will make a proactive media disclosure regarding prisoner Barrie Watts’s parole application at a date and time to be determined. At trial, Beck pleaded guilty to the abduction and rape of Sian at Tewantin and not guilty to murder. Watts pleaded not guilty.
