Despite the taboos surrounding self-esteem and men’s mental health, Desree has found the perfect way to discuss these important topics. As a spoken word poet, Desree uses the the beauty and intricacies of her words to express herself in a powerfully thought-provoking manner. Desree Gumbs-Carty devotes her time to theatre arts marketing and community arts by day and by night she transforms to a spoken word poet . An advocate for community arts and youth projects. Desree started an open mic night back in her home town of Slough with the sole purpose of empowering individuals of all ages. It was in the open mic night that Desree performed spoken words on stake for the first time. She has been featured at events such as Word up,Extra second london, Headspin, Speakeasy, Word on the street, Heaux noire: the open mic night for Woc by Woc and green belt festival in Kettering and now she here today on the Tedx stage.
