When You're There Roger Salloom - 1967 Vest Pocket Players (Private) 이 음반도 먼가 멋진 것이 숨어 있을 것 같은 커버를 보고 참 궁금했던 음반 중에 하나 였씁니다. 컬렉터 들은 늘 새로운 것을 궁금해 하고 또 다른 신기한 것 을 찾아 모험을 떠나지만 이 음반도 아주 파고 파고 깊게 파서 발견된 음반이 아닐까 생각해요. 그만큼 레어하다는 의미도 될듯합니다. ㅎㅎ 가끔 이런 걸 발견해내다니 하는 생각도 들어요. 음반의 소장 가치나 음악성을 떠나서, 한 시대를 살아갔던 Roger Salloom 이라는 사람을 만나서 그의 일생의 한 기록을 떠 올려 보고 만나는 것도 즐거운 경험인 것 같아요. 그가 만들어낸 세상과 음악을 듣는 것은 새로운 사람과의 만남이고 새로운 세상과의 마주침이기도 하니까요. Roger Sallom은 67년도에 Owl 이라는 커피하우스에서 오픈 공연을 하게 됩니다. 대학교 학기 진행 프로그램이기도 하였던 듯해요. 그래서 side b의 음악은 연극 무대음악입니다. 커피 하우스에서 새로운것 을 창조해내고 만났던 한 사람으로써 떨리는 순간이 녹음 되어있네요. 그것도 20대의 풋풋한 청년으로써. Malcolm Boyd씨가 앞면 커버에 언급되어있는데 한 시대를 선도 했던 사람입니다. 자유주의자 사회 운동가, 신부였던 그는 커피하우스와 나이트클럽의 재즈음악속에서 목회도 하였는데 인종차별, 성혁명 그리고 여성해방운동과 동성애자 (실제로 그는 커밍 아웃도 하였씀) 지지 운동도 하였다고 합니다. 정말 시대를 한참이나 앞서간 사람이였던 것 같습니다. 그가 나타나면 야유하는 사람과 지지자들로 아우성이였던듯해요. ㅎㅎ 그럴법도 하네요. 모든면서 해방을 하였던 분이였군요. 로저씨는 OWl이라는 커피하우스에서 같은 의미를 부여하고 싶었던 듯해요. 와 그것도 67년도에.. This album was one of the albums that I was curious about when I saw a cover that seemed to have something cool hidden. Collectors are always curious about new things and go on adventures looking for new things. I think this album was also discovered by digging deep into it. It also means that it is rare. I sometimes think that I found something like this. Regardless of the value and musicality of the album, I think it's a fun experience to meet Roger Salam, who lived in an era, recall a record of his life, and meet him. Listening to the world he created and music is a meeting with new people and an encounter with a new world. Roger Salom will have an open performance in 1967 at a coffee house called Owl.
