Tamil Nadu To Release State Education Policy; Countering NEP, 3-Language System | India Today News

On this broadcast, the state of Tamil Nadu is set to release its State Education Policy for schools. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will release the policy today. This policy is a direct counter to the National Education Policy. Tamil Nadu opposes the National Education Policy's three-language system and its recommendation for public exams in classes three, five, and eight. The state government states that these exams are regressive and against social justice. A committee under retired judge Justice Murugesan submitted the State Education Policy to the Tamil Nadu government last year. The State Education Policy recommends that undergraduate admissions for arts and science courses be based on consolidated marks from classes 11 and 12, without an entrance test. The policy also emphasizes science, artificial intelligence, and English. It recommends significant investment in funding for state-run institutions and aims to make education equitable, affordable, and future-ready. The Centre has withheld Rs 2,152 crore under the Samagra Shiksha scheme due to Tamil Nadu's refusal to adopt the National Education Policy.
