The Fathers of our Church and especially Saint Maximus the Confessor express the theology regarding will in Christ and by extension in people. The will of humans is divided into natural and gnomic. The role of obedience is to train the gnomic will through the personal struggle of each Christian, so he or she can be completed in harmony with the will of God. Christ possessed two wills: divine and human, the latter being in complete harmony with the divine one without being negated. The Incarnation of the Son redefined the content of the gnomic and debunked the idea that gnomic will is naturally sinful. Any Christian's goal is to not have a personal will, meaning his or her gnomic handling to not be full of egoism and to expel his pathologies, so he can become brother-loving and God-loving. His spiritual struggle to expel this egotistical will is a struggle that happens both on a social level (between brothers in Christ) and on a personal level. Featuring Fr.
