Our Website; https://hakononaka.jp/hako-tech In this video, we will introduce our efforts mainly from the perspective of "Community Theater". We aimed to create a space where anyone could perform. This project also made it possible to talk about social issues in a fun way while creating. The script we chose was written by Shinichi Sekine, "TEA FOR TWO". This text is a conversational play set in a hotel room in Sapporo. The story is about a gay couple who go on an annual date for 25 years from 1980 to 2005. In creating our own performance plan, we utilized the PhotoVoice method. PhotoVoice is a research approach that elicits opinions and emotions through photographs. In line with the principles of this method, each of the organizers brought about six photographs, each correlating with the number of scenes in the work. While sharing their experiences and opinions on the theme of "liking," they shared the joy of liking someone and the difficulty of dealing with them. In addition, we tried not to seek conclusions in all talks or discussions. This mindset of not seeking conclusions is one way to ensure that all people—including the performers, staff, and audience—do not lose the opportunity to learn with interest, curiosity, and questions. The organizers navigated without settling on a definitive answer or style, but many problems and barriers arose. For example, the lack of practice due to the corona crisis, the problem of mutual understanding... We also faced many other difficulties. Despite the difficulties, we were fortunate to have some good harvests. We believe that there are two points: "Two types of simultaneous production trials for risk avoidance" and "Providing an experience on the same stage as professionals". First of points, In 2022, Japan's theater scene faced challenges due to COVID-19. We introduced "two types of simultaneous production" as a safety measure. If one got affected, the other could continue. This method had its challenges but gave us many lessons. Next are the details of "Providing an experience on the same stage as professionals". At this stage, general participants were able to perform a reading play with the stage, lighting, and sound created by professional staff. It wasn't our primary intention. However, we believe it's valuable to offer such opportunities to the general public. And now, we recognize the value of offering a high-quality performance experience. Many events unfolded unexpectedly, but every experience, both good and bad, was priceless. In particular, one notable event was the 'Kurumaza'. The audience, performers, and organizers were able to have a talk in a circle around the circle. This might be a crucial component in fostering an opportunity for cultural and intellectual engagement. The distinct features of this project are encapsulated in two art terms: "ongoing" and "work-in-progress." By "ongoing", we refer to the continuous style of the presentation. "Work-in-progress" emphasizes that the process itself is the artwork. "Hako-tech" has started to work on the implementation of the next citizen's play.
