Today, DJ Peach Cobbler discusses the role that Roman attitudes towards Egyptians played in the rise of Octavian. Along the way he'll discuss Marc Antony's mistakes, Cleopatra's feminine charms, and how Octavia was definitely hot. For this video I used two main sources, both of which I recommend. Plutarch's "Life of Antony" and "The War that Made the Roman Empire" by Barry Strauss. "Rubicon" and "Dynasty: Rise and Fall of the House of Caesar" by Tom Holland were both also very helpful here, and I highly-recommend them. I promise I wasn't lazy, I checked the work of Barry Strauss, which led me to the excellent "speech" "recorded" by Cassius Dio and Tacitus' interesting little remark about Octavia. The Fall of the Roman Republic has always captured my imagination. I suppose it's the "characters". Cicero, Caesar, Antony, Sextus Pompey, Pompey Magnus, Crassus, Claudius Pulcher, and Octavian are all exceedingly-fascinating historical figures, and the way in which Greco-Roman historians wrote is very dramatic and fun to retell! I do not love Rome because I love marble, nor monuments, nor extensive borders on maps, but because I love a good story written well. But I have moved away from the Roman Republic. I don't want to say this is the last time I'll cover the subject, as I have one half-finished script which would be a proper send-off. If you ever see a video entitled, "The Last Act of Cicero", then you'll know I'm done. Out of all those characters, he is the one which has most captured my imagination. There is something about decent men in indecent times which makes my heart ache. After my "last" Game of the Year I am hesitant to make further promises about the future of this channel. The whole "Egypt" project has been more of an obligation than a joy to make, but it has given me enough money to indulge in my less-profitable projects. All the same, I hope I delivered a sufficiently-enjoyable and thought-provoking product. I always have a "big" video cooking. I can't wait to share it with you. I can, at the very least, promise that you'll see it before the end of the year. “While living, I want to live well.” - Geronimo
