The Phuket Zoo was forced to shut its doors in late 2021 after the attraction fell victim to financial pressures of the Covid-19 pandemic, which severely cut tourist arrivals and in turn zoo visitors. The charity Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT) said that with the last operation, 11 tigers and two bears have been removed over the past few months and taken to a rescue centre operated by WFFT in Thailand’s central Petchaburi Province.
