With the area of 637.37 sq.km. it has pristine sub-tropical jungle. In history, this area served as a vacation site for the Rana Rulers of the country. In 1984, it has been gazetted as a wildlife reserve to preserve the habitat for wild Asian elephant and a variety of other fauna. It is contiguous with Chitwan Park in the west. In 2017 it was gazetted as National Park. 2. Gate Way of Nepal ( Shankaracharya Gate) Birgunj is a metropolitan city in Parsa District in Province No. 2, Nepal. It lies 135 km (84 mi) south of the capital Kathmandu, attached in the north to Raxaul in the border of the India, Bihar. it is known as the “Gateway of Nepal and Shankaracharya Gate” “Gateway of Nepal” (Shankaracharya Gate) is one of the tourist destinations in Nepal. Ghadiarwa Pokhari Birgunj: Chhath, the festival of purity, goodwill and faith, is being celebrated in the Terai region of Nepal with much fanfare and enthusiasm. The Hindu festival dedicated to the Sun god is observed for four days. Dedicated to the Sun god, offerings are made to the rising and setting sun. The Sun considered the god of energy and of the life force is worshiped during the Chhath festival to promote well-being, prosperity and progress. The festival begins from Kartik Shukla Chaturthi till Kartik Shukla Saptami according to the Lunar calendar. Meanwhile, Ghadiarwa Pokhari in Birgunj, which is considered one of the most crowded venues during the festival, has been fully decorated with lights and decked up for the festival. Ghadhi Mai Temple Gadhimai festival is a religious festival held every five years in Nepal at the Gadhimai Temple of Bariyarpur, in Bara District, about 160 kilometres (99 mi) south of the capital Kathmandu, and about 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) east of the city of Kalaiya, near the Indo-Nepal border. It is primarily celebrated by Madhesi people. The event involves large-scale sacrificial slaughter of animals, including water buffalo,[2] pigs, goats, chickens, and pigeons, with the goal of pleasing Gadhimai, the goddess of power. People also offer coconuts, sweets, red-coloured clothes, etc.[3] The festival has been described as the world's largest animal sacrifice event[4][5][6] or one of the largest. 5. Churiya Mai Temple Churiya Mai Temple is in the Chure mountain range on the Tribhuvan Highway (Hetauda-Birgunj road) in west start of Makwanpur district and north end of Bara district. The name of the village is Chure, which is based on the name of this temple itself. Likewise, Chure Mai Temple is named after the name of the peak i.e., Chure mountain range by adding ‘Mai’ with the Churiya. No matter who visits this place, be it high class people or low-class people, everyone payshomage, and bow their head in front of God and goddess for their happy, successful, and good life. 6. Parasnath Temple Parasnath Temple is a magnificent Hindu temple located in the village of Mahuwan in the Parsa district.Parasnath Temple lies some 15 kilometers west of Birgunj. Lord Shiva is honored in the Parasnath Temple. It is one of southern Nepal’s historical temples. The name of the Parsa district is derived from the name of this temple, which is ‘Parasnath.’ Inside the temple, there is a Shiva Lingam that, according to tradition, never dips in water.It is a popular tourist attraction in the Parsa region. This temple has a long and illustrious history. The historical and ancient statue in the ParasnathMandir has also accumulated and been connected with a long history. The mandir is said to have approximately 1200 years old history. 7. Gahawa Mai Temple Gahawa Mai Temple is a beautiful Hindus temple in Birgunj, Nepal. “Gahawa Mai Temple” is situated near 1 Km south of Birgunj Ghantaghar. Devotees go here every day to worship Mata. Gahawa Mai Temple is also one of the tourism place of Birgunj, Parsa. This temple is decorated as a bride in Danshai, the great festival of Nepalese.
