Racing Oil vs Regular Oil | What is the Best Oil for Race Cars

Should you use racing oil or conventional oil for your engine? We talked with Mark Sinicki of Mobil 1 about what the best racing oil is, differences between these oil types, and how they can benefit you. Depending on the type of racing you’re doing, there are different formulations of the ideal racing oil. With NHRA, you are more focused on high viscosity and wear protection, whereas with NASCAR the focus is on the oil’s performance, which will change the additives involved. For some racing applications you can use regular street oil, but if you’re working with an older vehicle, you want an oil with a higher zinc concentration to prevent wear in the camshaft and lifters.
