OutRun playthrough (PC Engine, 1CC)
The PC Engine port of OutRun was released 1990. Why were SEGA releasing games for the PC Engine? From what I've read on SEGA Retro, it was because in Japan, the PC Engine was a huge sales success, whilst the Mega Drive was not. So putting their own games on a competitor's format was actually a good move for SEGA. However almost all of SEGA's PC Engine games were only released in Japan, including OutRun. The only ones to be released in the USA were Fantasy Zone and Space Harrier. As for this port, it seems fine to me. The obvious version to compare it to would be the Genesis port, but I've not played that so I can't really say much, other than I prefer the colors the PC Engine port has. The car engine noise is pretty annoying though, although the developers seemed to realize this as there's an option to turn the engine sounds off if you want.
