The imaginary triangle that connects three of the places that I have spent so much time the last few years - Carraroe, Inisheer and Doolin - inspired this song. I climbed one of the hills on a turbulent, yet starry night in Doolin in early 2021 looking at Inisheer’s glimmering lighthouse reflections in the sea. When I was in Carraroe, I did the same… from the other side of the water. It got me thinking about what connects these three places, and all the people who have gone before me. If I was standing on one of the piers in these places about to board a boat further West, what would I tell my friends, families, lovers? ‘Sing a song of old, love the ones you hold…’ Lena Popovchenko met film makers Brendan Canty and Ayla Amano in April 2022 after arriving in Ballyvaughan, Co.Clare from the Donetsk region of Ukraine. They recorded Lena dancing around the Spring Burren landscape, giving her total freedom and autonomy to move and dance however she wanted to, to simply do the thing she loved.... This song is about leaving and longing, and the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
