"In My Head" by Kate Bone

I wrote this song about what happens after things fall apart. I find that there’s an immediate blow to the heart, as it cracks and breaks for what was lost… but the reverberations of grief ricochet around the mind for much longer. This song asks “What will life look like now that you’re gone? Now that it's over? Now that it's lost?” It’s my first song in open tuning (DADGAD to be precise) I felt my muse, Joni, subtly guiding me to experiment with new landscapes of sound. Such possibility. Sort of like how when you break something apart, there’s a lot of space and a lot of raw material to make something new. This song is for you if you had some heart break this year. If something didn’t turn out the way you thought it would. Around this time of year I see a lot of “highlight” reels on social media. People sharing their brightest moments of the year. I love it. You know me, I'm here to be your hype girl all day. I just wanted to carve out a little space for the very real disappointments that we all face. The very real collateral that comes with the territory of following your heart. If we want to live boldly, we have to risk greatly. We're taught to be afraid of the dark. That it's bad and scary. I invite you to turn to the darkness of this time of year like the fertile soil. There's a richness in the darkness. A texture of solitude. An inward turn that is made so much easier by the lack of light. Wherever you are, I hope you are well and you know how deeply you are loved and cherished. How glad we all are that you're here. Keep flowing, growing, and shining my friends. Light a candle tonight and speak some words of intention towards the season of growing light. I love you. Take good care hunnies.
