Roberta Invernizzi, soprano Cappella de' Turchini From Museo internazionale e biblioteca della musica di Bologna, MS Q.46; Evanston, Northwestern University Library, Mss.1; and Il Pazzo con la Pazza ristampata, et uno Hospedale per gl'infermi d'Amore, Firenze, Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale, Mus.47. Giramo's "Chi non mi conosce”, the only one of the Northwestern cantatas known to have been printed in the seventeenth century, is part of a collection of pieces entitled “Il Pazzo, con la Pazza ristampata, Et uno Hospedale per gl'infermi d'Amore” and dedicated to Princess Anna di Medici (1616-1676). As the title suggests, all the pieces deal in one way or another with various afflictions of love, especially love-induced madness. Giramo gives the singer numerous opportunities to entertain the audience through a variety of musical styles reflecting the frenetic state of the crazed female lover. Between presentations of the refrain, the madwoman tries poetizing, singing (solfège and eventually a Napolitana), dancing (a fedele and a follia), and even a conversation with Cupid but is unable to sustain any activity or mood for more than a short time.— William V. Porter, Northwestern University's Seventeenth-Century Manuscript of Roman Cantatas, 2001
