#facetwitching #hemifacialspasmtreatment #drjaydevpanchwagh #facetwitchingcause #facetwitchingtreatment In this video on MVD treatment for Hemifacial spasms, Dr Jaydev Panchwagh has performed surgery on a patient from Mumbai and has successfully cured him. Typically, patients who suffer from hemifacial spasm (or also called winking disease) describe that their symptoms started as eye twitching or eye vibration. It then progresses to getting cheek cramps (cheek vibration) or face getting pulled to one side. Some patients describe this as face cramps. The cause of the 'face cramps' is a blood vessel compressing the facial nerve. How is Hemifacial spasm treated? Surgery for treatment of hemifacial spasm is usually done by Microvascular decompression surgery (MVD). Medicines are generally not helpful, except to keep the patient calm during stressful situations which may trigger the spasms. As most patients who have Hemifacial spasms describe, stress or public speaking brings on the spasms more intensely. Is Botox useful for treatment of hemifacial spasms? Botox has been an option suggested to treat hemifacial spasms, but are only useful to the extent of causing paralysis. The electrical activity that causes the spasms is still happening inside the brain, but the Botox works as a blanket to ‘douse’ that ‘’fire’!
