Just over ten years ago, transgender teenager Leelah Alcorn tragically ended her own life after seventeen years of transphobic bullying from her parents, community, and society. Transphobic bigotry is now worse than it's perhaps ever been before. Reactionaries have fomented a moral panic over the existence of trans people and seek to eradicate "transgenderism" through the power of the state. That means it's more important than ever to remember Leelah as a human being whose life mattered – and to remember her story as an example of the very real human cost of bigotry. Patreon - / patucation Hey there, I'm Pat (he/him). I make video essays about stuff. My goal is to educate ("patucate") myself and others by researching and talking about myriad themes and topics: political commentary, philosophy, ethics, media analysis, thoughts about life – whatever I feel like talking about, really. The main thematic throughline of my content is antifascism, but I also want to promote socialism, feminism, workers' rights, social progressivism, and leftism broadly. If you like the content, please consider supporting me on Patreon. It helps a great deal and is appreciated beyond the words of a video description. #transgender #lgbtq #lgbtqrights 0:00 Intro 3:21 Part one: The tragic life of Leelah Alcorn 21:23 Part two: The legacy of Leelah Alcorn 43:27 Outro and sources
