(Victor) "I'm The Last Of The Red Hot Mammas" Recorded 3/25/1929 Hollywood. California. w Ted Shapiro Orchestra. Release Date: 8/1929. Written by Milton Ager & Jack Yellen. Sophie Tucker (January 13, 1886 – February 9, 1966) was a Ukrainian-born American singer, comedian, actress, and radio personality. Known for her powerful delivery of comical and risqué songs, she was one of the most popular entertainers in America during the first half of the 20th century. She was widely known by the superlative nickname "The Last of the Red Hot Mamas". Tucker died of lung cancer and kidney failure on February 9, 1966, aged 80, in New York City. She had continued working until the months before her death, playing shows at the Latin Quarter just weeks before. She is buried in Emanuel Cemetery, in Wethersfield, Connecticut, her home state. Honky Tonk is a 1929 American Pre-Code musical film starring Sophie Tucker in her film debut. The film was a flop when released and is now lost, although the Vitaphone soundtrack for the film and for the trailer still exists. Tucker sings a number of songs in the movie, including her theme song "Some of These Days", and "I'm the Last of the Red Hot Mamas", from which she took her billing as "The Last of the Red Hot Mamas". Lyrics: Sheiks, neckers and jelly beans, lend me your ears; So you think you've been petted, Don't be silly, forget it! Debs, flappers and baby vamps bore me to tears; What do they know concerning love? Come to me for your burning love! 'Cause I'm the last of the red hot mamas, They've all cooled down but me! Flapper vamps, say what do they know? Come get your hot stuff from this volcano! I'm an overheated, try and beat it, Hotsy-totsy Hottentot! Now it may be snowing, But when I get going, Oh baby, I'm hot! You can keep your collegiate charmers, Their lovin' isn't worth a dime! Away up in Alaska where the natives freeze, An Eskimo left my hut in his BVD's! 'Cause I'm the last of the red hot mamas, I'm gettin' hotter all the time! I don't wanna brag, but in my hotel suite, A dozen firemen were overcome by heat! A sacks man wants to marry me, the dear sweet soul, He thinks with me around he'll save a lot of coal! I met a movie star who's famous for his pass', I gave him one kiss and singed off his mustache! A funny thing happened, I nearly died, I sat down on an egg, the egg was fried! I'm the last of the red hot mamas, They've all cooled down but me! I don't pet and only neck 'em, No sir, I'm a mama who loves to wreck 'em! I can make 'em sizzle, Make 'em fry and frizzle, If you wanna know the truth, I can warm the cold ones And give the old ones Back their flaming youth! I was born in the hot Bahamas, Right now I'm in lovin' prime. Others pet and kiss and hug And don't know what it's all about, Say, when I kiss men, They feel they've had their tonsils taken out! 'Cause I'm the last of the red hot mamas, I'm gettin' hotter all the time!
