Just an hour from London, Shoebury Common Beach is a 2021 blue flag beach located at Shoeburyness, Essex by the Thames Estuary. With its expanse of sand and a variety of maritime activities, colourful beach huts, it’s a perfect place for a day out at the seaside with family & friends. Only a short drive from the main strip of Southend Pier and seafront, the Shoebury Common Beach and its neighbour Thorpe Bay Beach (3 minutes away) are quieter, and a different world away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist areas. Simply relax on the beach, picnic, collect stones, go for a swim when the tide comes in, or stroll along the traditional beach hut-lined promenade, enjoy a scenic coastal walk, and watch little boats dotted about, windsurfers, estuary shipping, and view. The clean beach has a safe pedestrian area, and also chargeable facilities to launch boats and jet skis, and the area is known for kitesurfing. It has ramped disabled access to a wooden platform. Uncle Tom’s Cabin offers teas & coffees, soft drinks, ice creams, hotdogs, etc, as well as buckets, and spades for kids playing in the sand. Thorpe Bay Beach is a mixed sand and shingle beach, and just 3 minutes or 1.3 miles away. There are plenty of colourful beach huts, too. Like other beaches in the Southend on Sea, both beaches have Dog Control Orders, so no dogs are allowed on the beach between the 1st of May and the 30th of September.
