This is one of the easiest methods of joining quilt as you go blocks and a real favorite. If you didn’t watch part 1 and make the string quilts that’s OK. You can make your own quilt blocks as long as they will accommodate a 3/8 inch seam allowance rather than the common 1/4 inch seam allowance commonly used in quilting. Important! Your blocks need to be quilted already. That means you’ve joined the pieces top with the batting and the backing with stitches of either straight lines or a decorative free motion Quilting. This short video shows how to join the individually quilted blocks, make the cover strips, and sew them. The basic idea is that you’re stitching the quilted blocks together, but that leaves an exposed ugly raw seam. That's where the Coverstrips come into play! The cover strips come to the rescue to cover it all up like a bias strip on top. We are making a simple four block quilt just so you can practice the joining techniques and gain confidence. After this, you can use the exact same technique to make a much bigger full-size quilt.
