Berlin, September 24, 2022 Skate blog: 'Marathon Berlin' What an experience it was again! Friday morning at 5.30 am we left with Merel and Mike for Berlin to arrive at Tempelhof around 12 pm to pick up our starting ticket. Of course we had a chat with former world champion Pascal Briand and then we went to our permanent place in Berlin: Amstel House Hostel. Just like last year, a room for 'our' group. It feels like an outing every year, but this year was different. Private circumstances changed the focus. During Jan's nice back massage I made a decision, I'm not going to drive fast, but enjoy. For me, the marathon was all about filming and helping. Helping Merel improve her best marathon time. And it worked! Jan mostly as a locomotive and I as a pusher. A beautiful pairing! It was great to see that Sijtze joined us halfway through, but it's a shame that Ruud had to drop out. He continued under his own power and demanded that we continue driving..... In the end, the four of us, hand in hand, took the whole road the last kilometers. Mike, Merel, Jan, Ruud and Sijtze, thank you for the fun and support (during the marathon) and too many toppers to mention before and after the marathon! We made memories again! Next year we will travel - ice and return - to Berlin for the fifth time! Enjoy the aftermovie and sit back.
