Every shot from my round at Pontypridd Golf Club in Pontypridd, Rhondda Cynon Taf, on 24th May 2024. Continuing my quest to add more courses to my played and filmed list involves lots of time searching on the Internet and unearthing great finds along the way. Pontypridd certainly falls into this category as I knew nothing about the club beforehand but was certainly glad I made a visit here afterwards. As with several other courses I've played recently, there's a fair bit of "up" getting to the course and a few narrow lanes to navigate but once there, your eyes are opened up to some wonderful views from the clubhouse and once on the course, it keeps on getting better. As expected, the terrain plays a huge part in the challenges of the course with many up and downhill holes and many stances when addressing the ball being affected by the lie of the land. This just adds to the character of the course with many of the holes having distinct differences from the others and posing different challenges. Some holes require accuracy and planning from the tee whilst others can really tax your club selection with the changes of altitude involved. I can only imagine how difficult it is when the wind begins to pick up! I had a lovely chat before the round in the pro shop, and was offered very helpful advice on some of the more iconic holes. I was also pre-warned about the two uphill par 5's that may be deceptively short in distance but require good hitting to get home and a good set of lungs to play! I had a very enjoyable round, even if my swing wasn't producing the straightest shots. As is often the case, my short game held the round together. Not that my golf was the highlight today, it was certainly the views and the course experience which I enjoyed immensely. I had a lovely chat after the round with the seniors captain, Jeff, who I discovered remembered my name and my output from a previous obsession I had with bird photography! It's a small world and it was lovely to chat about golf, wildlife and life in general on a sunny afternoon in such lovely surroundings! In short, a super course, super place, super views and super members!
