https://johndoc.co.uk/ The Doc's performance of Hurt, a 1954 song by Jimmie Crane and Al Jacobs. The song was originally recorded by Roy Hamilton, however it was recorded by many artists over the years, namely Elvis Presley and The Manhattans. The song would be a staple in John's sets in the early to mid 80's, also featuring in his set at the Jock Stein Tribute Night. In memory of Robert McCallum Reynolds and David King Taylor Shanks. Sincerely Yours was a cassette that John sold roughly around 1984 and has only just seen the light of day, thanks to the last President of Cleland Miners, Ian Watt. The album features Doc and his band at their very best, showing the diverse nature of their set with musicianship that would be rivaled by very few. In regards to the recording itself, I initially thought it may have been done in a studio, however, Ian mentioned that Doc used to tape on a Reel to Reel recorder from pre-amplified signals at some of his performances, so that is most likely to be the case that this recording exists. Given the guesstimate of when the tape was sold, John's band would most likely consist of: John Doc - Vocals, Piano John Fernon - Guitar John Caulfield - Bass Chuck McCormick - Drums Ian brought to my attention that Doc sold CD's in later years, which means that some of the songs I've already uploaded exist in superior quality. If you're in possession of any Doc material on CD or any other format that contains songs not already uploaded, please reach out via the website noted at the top of the video and we can get it digitized. Obtaining the rest of John's master tapes is one of the main reasons that the website was launched. Jim McLean, founder of Nevis Records and prolific songwriter, produced and recorded John's first two albums and incredibly gifted me the master tape of the first Carousel album. The second wasn't archived with the rest of the masters and the master tapes for the two E.P.'s seem to have disappeared. There's a good chance that Sam Plotnikoff or Graham Christopher may be in possession of the master tape of Hasties Farm, so if anyone is in contact with them if they're still with us, please let them know that I'd like to speak with them. If anyone has any information on the records, whether it be where the albums were recorded, pressed or any insight on where the masters may be, please reach out so we can get them digitized to preserve The Doc's music in the best possible quality.
