Text: (0:00) Sursum corda Priest: Lift up your hearts. Answer: We lift them up unto the Lord. Priest: Let us give thanks unto our Lord God. Answer: It is meet and right so to do. (0:44) Preface, including the alternate Proper Preface for Trinity Sunday Priest: It is very meet, right, and our bounden duty, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto thee, O Lord, Holy Father, Almighty, Everlasting God. For the precious death and merits of thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord, and for the sending to us of the Holy Ghost, the Comforter; who are one with thee in thy Eternal Godhead. Therefore with Angels and Archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we laud and magnify thy glorious Name; evermore praising thee, and saying, (1:49) Sanctus Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of, hosts, Heaven and earth are full of thy glory: Glory be to thee, O Lord Most High. Blessed is he that cometh in the Name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The alternate Preface for Trinity Sunday is included here to demonstrate how it ought to be sung, but may be sung with any appropriate mass setting, in accordance with the rubrics of the Book of Common Prayer. Recorded June 20-21, 2025 at The Chapel of the Cross Reformed Episcopal Church, Dallas, Texas. The Kyrial is a collection of eleven plainchant mass settings that I harmonized for congregational singing. Ten of these, which come from the Liber usualis, I first adapted from Latin to prayer-book English. To facilitate the needs of different congregations, these masses may be sung several ways. They may be sung in unison, either a cappella or with organ, transposed to suit all voice types. The congregation may sing the melody while the choir sings in harmony, or all may sing in harmony, accompanied or unaccompanied. Furthermore, men in the congregation who are uncomfortable singing tenor or bass may sing the melody without disrupting the harmony.
