Maybe you've read stories in the Bible—miracles, healings, bold acts of faith—and thought, Why don’t we see that kind of power today? Or maybe, deep down, you’ve sensed there’s something more God wants to do in and through you, but you’ve felt unsure, unqualified, or just plain stuck. If that’s you, I want to tell you something simple and life-changing: God has gifted you. Not just in a general, “you have potential” kind of way. But specifically, intentionally, and powerfully. When you put your trust in Jesus, the Holy Spirit gave you at least one spiritual gift—a God-given ability meant to build up others, serve the church, and point people to Jesus. Think about that. The same Spirit who empowered Jesus now lives in you. He’s not just a comforter or counselor—though He is both—but He’s also your equipper. He’s handed you something to carry, something meant to be used. The problem is, many of us don’t unwrap that gift. We keep it on the shelf because we don’t feel ready or we’re waiting for a perfect moment. But here’s the truth: your gift doesn’t grow on the sidelines. It grows when you use it. Even if you feel awkward or unqualified at first, that’s where God meets you and shapes you. Paul writes in Romans 12, “In His grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well.” He goes on to list some of them—encouraging, serving, teaching, leading, giving, showing kindness. These are everyday gifts with eternal impact. And they’re not just for pastors or “super Christians.” They’re for you. Maybe no one’s ever told you that you’re part of something much bigger than yourself. But you are. God is building something in this world—and He’s invited you to help build it. So, where do you start? Ask God to show you your gift. Sometimes the Spirit speaks through prayer. Sometimes through others. Sometimes through trial and error. Start serving. You’ll learn by doing. The best way to discover your gift is to use it—even imperfectly. Stay rooted. Your gift doesn’t replace your relationship with God—it flows from it. Stay close to Him. Listen. Follow. You may not feel like the most talented person in the room. That’s okay. When Jesus passed the ball, He didn’t look for All-Stars—He looked for those who were available. The Holy Spirit is looking at you and saying, I’m coming to you. This is your moment. Don’t miss it. Your gift matters. Your part in God’s story matters. And someone out there needs exactly what He’s placed inside you.
