"Wade in the Water" video tells the story of a band of enslaved Africans from the past that escape to freedom only to find themselves in modern day America. About Alma Matters A unique and ambitious collaborative project conceived and organized by Oakland-based vocalist/flutist/drummer/producer Jeff Weinmann, Alma Matters reflects the vibrant cultural diversity of the San Francisco Bay Area, and features leading lights in the worlds of contemporary jazz, Latin, hip-hop and R&B - have done countless memorable performances with various ensembles over the last 30 years. Having recently recorded tracks for their second album at Berkeley's legendary Fantasy Studios, the Bay Area-based band - many of whom came through the Berkeley Public Schools Jazz Program together in the 70's and 80's - will be showcasing new material by musical director/saxophonist/keyboardist Peter Apfelbaum and trombonist/vocalist Natalie Cressman in addition to performing songs from their debut release, the eponymous Alma Matters. The show will also feature vocalists Sandy Cressman, Tony Lindsay (of Santana fame) and Terrance Kelly (founder and director of the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir) as well as rapper Chris Burger (of the Bay Area jazz-meets-hip-hop group Alphabet Soup) and saxophonist Eddie M (Sheila E, Prince) in addition to AM regulars Erik Jekabson (trumpet), Jeff Cressman (trombone), John Schott (guitar), Steve Hogan (bass), Josh Jones (drums, percussion) and co-leader Weinmann (drums, flute, vocals).
