Hi, my name is Jazmine Tivis, founder of In Her Vision — a space where I talk about healing in real time, especially for Black women navigating growth, boundaries, and becoming themselves. In this video, I’m breaking down the difference between discernment and projection, and why understanding the difference matters when deciding whether someone is supportive… or draining. After one of my TikToks went viral, I noticed many people were responding emotionally to the example I used instead of hearing the message. That reaction made it clear that a lot of us use these words without actually understanding what they mean. So in this video, I: -Define projection and discernment clearly -Explain how negative projection shows up in relationships -Talk about how I used discernment to remove myself without guilt -Address the idea that boundaries mean you “just want yes-men” -Explain why being kind and having boundaries can coexist This is not about cutting people off impulsively. This is about learning when to step back intentionally. If this resonates, feel free to like, comment, or share. If it challenges you, sit with that too. Discernment Discernment is the ability to judge well — to see and understand situations clearly, especially when things are subtle or complex, allowing someone to distinguish truth from falsehood, support from harm, and wisdom from impulse.
