His external roles include serving as President of the Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources, Vice President of the Board for the Open Education Consortium, board member of the Directors of Educational Technology/California Higher Education, an advisor to the Lumina Foundation on the uses of educational technology, and a member of the Distance Learning Task Force of the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges. James was previously a tenured faculty member in history, and has taught in online, hybrid, and face-to-face formats. He holds a BA in History from Illinois Wesleyan University, an MA in Humanities from the University of Chicago, a Certificate in Online Teaching and Learning from CSU East Bay, and a Certificate in Proactive Leadership in Higher Education from Cornell University. http://www.etom.org/content.cfm?m=11&...
