In this video I use the underground pedestrian tunnel network known as the Chicago Pedway to walk from the Chicago's New Eastside neighborhood all the way to City Hall without once going above ground. At a length of more than 40 downtown blocks, the pedway contains contains shopping centers, restaurants, public art, and numerous businesses. It connects to public and private buildings, metro subway stations. Tens of thousands of pedestrians use the pedway each day, particularly during inclement weather. Though the northeastern portion of the pedway where I begin my walk appears on the official pedway map to be disconnected from the greater tunnel system, it actually is indirectly accessible to the main, Loop-centric portion of the network via Metra rail platforms.
