Kurinjal peak is one of the lesser-known peaks in the western ghats. It is hidden deep in the Kudremukh National Park of Chikmagalur district, Karnataka. It is situated at an altitude of 5,751 ft. above sea level. Trekking to the peak takes you to a different world where you can experience the pure nature and the serenity. The trail passes through the tropical forest of Kudremukh National Park, many small streams and lush green meadows. The trail starts from Bhagabathi nature camp from where you need to start trekking. The trail ten passes through a river(bridge) and after few kms of inclined trail one will enter inside the heaven i.e. forest. Everything from now onwards is dreamy, lush green, peaceful and only pure nature. Once you are out from the forest then breathtaking view will welcome you. After this the trail begins to be little difficult as compared to the previous stretch. The final stretch to the peak is steep and difficult. Watch out for lots of leeches in monsoon treks. Carry a leech proof socks if you can. Monsoon is the best time for this trek as you will enjoy many water streams in the jungle, lush green forest, breath taking views and the mist will turn everything dreamy around you. You need to carry govt id proof Xerox copy for passes for this trek. For this trek guide is mandatory and there will be extra charges for the same. You can do it yourself as guide will be there with you else you can go with a authorized trekking group who will take care of all these passes collection and hiring the guide. Check with forest department if it is allowed to go till the top or till the house just few hundred meters before the peak as we were not allowed to go till the actual peak. Depending on the season they allow to go till the peak as it might be dangerous because of steep slippery terrain in the monsoons.
