CUMULUS BUDAPEST 2024: Keynote | New Extractivism by Vladan Joler

The Cumulus Conference 2024 hosted by MOME brought together over 550 participants from all around the world and across many generations and professional backgrounds to discuss the latest references and preferences in design. Vladan Joler is an academic, researcher, and artist whose work blends data investigations, counter-cartography, investigative journalism, writing, data visualisation, critical design, and numerous other disciplines. He is a professor at the New Media Department of the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad and co-founder of SHARE Lab. Vladan’s work explores and visualises different technical and social aspects of algorithmic transparency, digital labour exploitation, invisible infrastructures, and many other contemporary phenomena in the intersection between technology and society. His works are included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Design Museum in London, as well as in the permanent exhibition of the Ars Electronica Center.
