CONVERSATION STARTS AT 8:00 in... Will Reusch asked to have a conversation with advocates for CRT in schools. Alfred "shivy" Brooks, Dr. Kate Slater, and Louiza "Weeze"" Doran were on the side of Critical Race Theory is important for K-12, and Will was unsure leaning towards it being not ideal. While one could say that very little was accomplished, or that this wasn't productive, this is a rare and very clear example of what CRT looks like in practice- conversation, the classroom, etc. K-12 needs to be a place where curiosity is encouraged & supported and that includes issues over clarity of language, specific complexities & nuance, personal experiences, etc. If you believe that "Dr. Kate" showcased thinking and ideas you want to support: https://kateaslater.com/ If you believe that "Weeze" showcased thinking and ideas you want to support: https://accordingtoweeze.podia.com/ *while we are all adults and are free to act and interact in any way we please, I do not promote or encourage ANY harassment, personal attacks, or the like. I encourage everyone to conduct themselves with INTELLECTUAL HUMILITY, GENUINE CURIOSITY, and GRACE. Some of the individual Critical theorists (highlighted by James Lindsay & Helen Pluckrose in Cynical Theories) and mentioned by Will in the discussion that were deemed FALSE/ PROBLEMATIC: Ibram Kendi, Robin DiAngelo, Alison Bailey, Alexis Shotwell, Miranda Fricker, Linda Martin Alcoff, Barbara Applebaum, Kristie Dotson, and Audre Lorde. People mentioned by Will that were deemed appropriate: Kimberle Crenshaw, Derrick Bell, Richard Delgado, Jean Stefanic, Mari Matsuda.
