Bring a glass, wear your slippers, and join History Through Fiction for a relaxed Friday night cover reveal. Hosted by Colin Mustful, founder of History Through Fiction, this casual Zoom gathering brings together Jillian Forsberg (The Rhino Keeper, The Porcelain Menagerie), Caroline Hewitt (audiobook narrator for The Rhino Keeper, The Porcelain Menagerie, and Jungle of Ashes), and Brynn Barineau, author of Jungle of Ashes, forthcoming from History Through Fiction on May 19, 2026. Jungle of Ashes is a sweeping historical novel set in Fordlandia, Henry Ford’s ill-fated attempt to impose American industry and order on the Brazilian rainforest. As disease, cultural conflict, and corporate ambition begin to unravel the dream, the novel follows a young American woman and a Brazilian mechanic whose lives—and forbidden romance—are shaped by a collapsing utopia and the forces of empire, resistance, and survival. We’ll begin the evening by getting to know one another—what we’re drinking, where we’re joining from—before diving into Brynn’s inspiration for the novel and what the story means to her personally. Jillian and Caroline will share what drew them to Jungle of Ashes as reader and narrator, and we’ll explore the collaborative process behind bringing a historical novel to life in audio, including the challenges, constraints, and creative decisions involved. The event will also feature exclusive cover reveals for Jungle of Ashes and for Brynn’s debut novel, Jaguars and Other Game, also set in Brazil and forthcoming in a new edition from History Through Fiction. Jillian and Caroline will join Brynn in reflecting on the covers and the stories they represent. Audience participation is encouraged but never required—join on camera if you’d like, jump into the conversation at any time, or simply listen in. Questions are welcome throughout. As part of History Through Fiction’s Early Access Program, books pre-ordered directly through HTF are available two months prior to their official release dates. Slippers optional.
