Shadow Home Affairs Minister James Paterson has weighed in on Teal independent Monique Ryan's awkward on-air exchange following her refusal to answer questions at a pre-poll centre in the federal seat of Kooyong. The incident, which unfolded at an early voting centre in Malvern, saw Ms Ryan – who has campaigned on a platform of transparency and integrity – evade questions from Sky News Australia AM Agenda host Laura Jayes on the Teal-sponsored content scandal. "The teals are all for transparency and integrity and scrutiny when it's supplied to someone else, but they're not in favour of it when it's applied for them,” Mr Paterson has told Sky News Australia. “It reflects incredibly poorly on Monique Ryan to do the talk-to-the-hand routine and rebuff Laura’s very reasonable approach this morning and reasonable questions. “The teals should apply the same standards to themselves that they apply to others, lest they be accused of hypocrisy."
