This video documents a controlled repairability assessment performed on an asphalt composition shingle roof in Marietta, Georgia. During the attempt to remove and replace a single damaged shingle, we were required to manipulate seven surrounding shingles in order to access the fasteners in accordance with standard removal procedures. Of those seven shingles: • Three shingles sustained significant damage during manipulation • Nearly every tab on those three shingles fractured or creased • Granular loss occurred at crease points • Two shingles experienced nail pull-through • One shingle sustained a significant tear directly within the valley • The existing valley liner system was disturbed during the process This assessment was performed in a transparent and methodical manner consistent with industry-recognized repairability evaluation standards used in forensic roof inspections. Even absent code considerations, the existing valley liner is part of the current roof assembly. Disturbance of that existing system creates additional risk and requires further invasive manipulation. The inability to remove and replace a single shingle without damaging surrounding materials demonstrates that spot repair is not feasible without creating additional functional damage. This is not a theoretical opinion — it is field-verified evidence. Our goal is always objective documentation and fair evaluation.
